Special Walleye Licence

The Special Walleye licences are available through a draw system similar to the hunting draws process, and tags issued with each licence must be affixed to walleye the angler chooses to keep.

Highlights of the 2019 Special Walleye Licence Draw

  • Draw Application Period is Tuesday April 2, 2019 to Thursday April 25, 2019.
  • Draw applications can be purchased online or at Licence Issuers.
  • Application cost is $3.35 (plus GST) and is non-refundable

  • Alberta Residents can apply for a licence for each of the three size classes of walleye, but only drawn for one
  • The applicant can specify up to three water body preferences on each licence draw application (within each draw, state 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices for the lakes from the choices).
  • Once successfully drawn, the applicants name will be removed from successive draws.

Details of the Special Walleye Licence

  • The cost of the Special Walleye Licence is $11.00 (plus GST)
  • Licences not allocated during the draw process will be available for reservation on a first-come, first-served basis from May 9, 2019 (9:00 am) online at albertarelm.com or at a licence issuer ($3.35 + GST per application). Draw applications (reserving undersubscribed special licences) and licence purchases will be available online through albertarelm.com or at Licence Issuers.
  • Normal licence restrictions apply regarding licence combinations and eligibility. For example, if you were already drawn in one of the Special Walleye Licence draws, you cannot obtain another licence through the undersubscribed process. An angler may hold only one Special Fish Harvest Licence for walleye per year.
  • To buy your licence online, you must have pre-numbered Government of Alberta paper tags and wires before you begin your purchase. You have three options to obtain the online paper tags
    • Order tags on albertarelm.com
    • Pick up tags at an Alberta Fish & Wildlife district office
    • Order tags by calling the AlbertaReLM help desk at 1-888-944-5494
