Slot size limits are a type of fishing regulation in which anglers:

  • Harvest a defined size range of fish in a given waterbody (a harvest slot)
  • Protect a defined size range of fish from being harvested in a given waterbody (a protected slot)

Alberta’s fisheries see heavy angling pressure despite low fish productivity in lakes across the province. While slot size limits have been introduced on some Alberta lakes to help facilitate sustainable fish harvests, such attempts have not proven successful.
